Teeth Whitening in Makati: Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Session

Most people who book a free consultation with us arrive with the same handful of questions. That's a good sign — it means you're thinking it through. Here are the six we hear most at our Makati studio, answered honestly.

1. Will it make my teeth sensitive?

Some people feel a mild tingling during or after a session. It's usually temporary and settles within a day or two. If you already have sensitive teeth, tell us at your consultation — we may suggest starting with a shorter Express session. (More on this in our guide to sensitive teeth and whitening.)

2. Will it whiten my crowns, veneers or fillings?

No. Whitening gel only works on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers and fillings stay the shade they are. If they're on your front teeth, mention it at your consultation so we can talk through what an even result looks like for you.

3. What about white spots?

White spots are often present before whitening. They can look more visible straight after a session, then usually blend in as the surrounding teeth settle to their new shade.

4. Is it actually safe?

We use a cosmetic-grade gel with non-UV LED light, in a controlled studio setting. Every client gets a fresh, sealed kit. You apply the gel yourself with our team guiding and monitoring every round. Smile Lounge Sydney is a cosmetic studio — we don't diagnose or treat dental conditions, so if you have cavities, gum disease, or you're pregnant or breastfeeding, we'll ask you to wait.

5. How much whiter will my teeth get?

It depends on your starting shade. Whitening brings teeth back toward their natural colour rather than changing it completely. As a guide, Express sessions (30 min, ₱6,990) aim for a minimum of 4 shades brighter, and Premium sessions (60 min, ₱9,990) a minimum of 8. We check your shade before and after so you can see the difference for yourself.

6. How long do results last?

Typically 4–6 months, depending on how much coffee, tea, milk tea, red wine and soy-based dishes are in your week. Rinsing with water after staining food and drink helps it last longer.

Still deciding?

That's what the consultation is for. In 15 minutes we'll check your current shade, answer your questions and recommend a session — no pressure to book on the day.

Book a free consultation at our Makati studio →

6 Questions to Ask Before Your First Whitening Session

A brighter smile can instantly boost your confidence — whether you're preparing for a big event, celebrating a special occasion, or simply wanting to feel your best every day.

If you've been searching for the best teeth whitening in Manila, you may be wondering: How does professional teeth whitening actually work? How long do the results last? And what should you look for in a studio? Here's everything you need to know before booking your first cosmetic teeth whitening session.

Why Do Teeth Become Yellow or Stained?

Over time, teeth naturally lose their brightness due to everyday habits and lifestyle factors, including:

Drinking coffee, tea, wine, and other coloured beverages

Eating foods with strong pigments

Smoking or using tobacco products

The natural aging process

Everyday lifestyle habits that contribute to surface staining

Even with regular brushing and good oral hygiene, stains can gradually build up, leaving your smile looking less bright than it once was.

What Is Professional Teeth Whitening?

Professional teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure designed to reduce the appearance of stains and brighten the natural colour of your teeth. Unlike many over-the-counter whitening products, a professional whitening session provides a guided experience tailored to your whitening goals.

At Smile Lounge Sydney, we offer guided self-application cosmetic teeth whitening, where our team walks you through the entire process, sets you up comfortably, and supervises every step — all within a relaxed, non-clinical studio setting.

How Does the Treatment Work?

Most professional teeth whitening — including what we use at Smile Lounge Sydney — relies on a peroxide-based gel activated by an LED accelerator light. The gel breaks down the stain layer that's built up on the surface of your teeth over time, without touching or damaging the enamel underneath.

During treatment, it's completely normal to feel a slight tingling or fizzing sensation as the gel works. What's not normal is pain — if a studio's treatment hurts, that's a red flag, not a sign it's "working harder."

A quick myth to clear up: whitening doesn't turn your teeth a completely different shade. It brightens your teeth back toward your natural, genetically-determined colour. Most adults have a naturally yellow-toned base shade; some people (often due to age or medication) have a greyer base. A good studio will explain this to you honestly upfront rather than promising a shade of white your teeth were never going to reach.

What to Expect During Your Session

Reputable studios typically offer a few tiers, and it's worth knowing what's realistic to expect:

Express sessions (around 30 minutes) are ideal if you've whitened before and just want to maintain or refresh your results — expect a minimum of about 4 shades brighter.

Premium sessions (around 60 minutes) are the go-to for first-timers wanting a real transformation — expect a minimum of about 8 shades brighter.

A free consultation should always be available before you commit to anything. If a studio won't walk you through the process, check your teeth, and set honest expectations first, that's worth questioning.

How Long Do Results Last?

Individual results vary — genetics, lifestyle, and medication history all play a role, and any studio that guarantees an identical result for everyone isn't being fully upfront with you. What you can reasonably expect from a quality treatment:

Visible removal of common surface stains from coffee, wine, tobacco, soda, and tea

No harm to your enamel — the gel targets the stain layer, not the tooth structure itself

Results that typically last 4–6 months, depending on your diet and habits

Minimal to no sensitivity, and if you do experience any, it should be mild and temporary — usually resolving within a day or two

Who Shouldn't Get Teeth Whitening Right Now

A trustworthy studio will actually turn some people away — and that's a good sign, not a bad one. Whitening isn't recommended if you're:

Pregnant or breastfeeding

Dealing with unfilled cavities or holes

Currently experiencing untreated gingivitis or gum disease

If a studio doesn't ask about any of this before treating you, that's worth being cautious about.

Questions Worth Asking Before You Book

When you're comparing options for teeth whitening in Manila, a few questions will tell you a lot fast:

What's included in the session — is there a real consultation first?

Is there a fresh, sealed treatment kit and new gloves for every client?

How many shades brighter is realistic for my starting point?

What does aftercare look like, and how long should I expect results to last?

What happens if I have sensitive teeth or existing dental work?

Why Choose Smile Lounge Sydney

At Smile Lounge Sydney, we built our process around exactly these questions — a free consultation before every session, a fresh kit and gloves for every client, and honest expectation-setting about shade results from day one. We'd rather you walk in informed than walk out disappointed.

Curious what your smile could look like? Book a free consultation and we'll show you your options — no pressure, just an honest look at what's realistic for you.
